COM Inspector – AutoHotkey v2

COM Inspector is a powerful Windows Registry Scanner and COM Object Browser built with AutoHotkey v2. It scans your system’s HKCR\CLSID registry hive and lists every registered COM/ActiveX class — complete with its CLSID, ProgID, and Description — in a searchable, sortable ListView.

What Does It Do?

  • Registry Scanning — Automatically enumerates all registered COM classes from HKCR\CLSID at startup, reading each entry’s ProgID and Description from the Windows Registry.
  • Smart Search & Filtering — Search across CLSID, ProgID, and Description columns simultaneously. Toggle which columns to search and enable Regular Expression mode for advanced pattern matching.
  • Interface Inspection (ITypeInfo) — Double-click any COM class to inspect its interface. COM Inspector uses the ITypeInfo COM interface to enumerate all methods, properties (get/put), their arguments, and documentation strings. Hold Shift while opening to bind via IUnknown instead of IDispatch.
  • WMI Properties Viewer — View detailed properties of any COM class via Win32_ClassicCOMClassSetting WMI query — including AppID, InprocServer32, ThreadingModel, TypeLibraryId, LocalServer32, and more.
  • Advanced WMI Search — Write custom WMI queries against Win32_ClassicCOMClassSetting to find COM objects by DLL path, threading model, or any other property.
  • Export to CSV — Export the current ListView contents (filtered or full) to a CSV file with proper quoting and UTF-8 encoding.
  • Copy to Clipboard — Quickly copy a selected entry’s CLSID, ProgID, Description, or all rows to the clipboard via right-click context menu or Edit menu.
  • Pre-loaded Common Objects — Ships with a built-in quick-search list of popular COM objects like Excel.Application, Word.Application, Outlook.Application, Scripting.FileSystemObject, ADODB.Connection, WScript.Shell, and more.
  • Resizable GUI — All controls automatically resize and reposition when the window is resized.
  • Command-Line Support — Pass a search term as a command-line argument to auto-search on launch.

Who Is This For?

AutoHotkey developers, system administrators, and power users who work with COM automation in Windows. Whether you’re automating Microsoft Office, scripting WMI queries, or exploring what COM objects are available on your system — this tool gives you instant visibility into every registered COM class and its interface members.
