Why My Driveway Upgrade Was the Best Time Hack of the Year❗

AutoHotkey Newsletter

Howdy,

I moved “to the country” mid Covid.   We bought a house with 7 acres (and I still love it!)

One of the few things I didn’t like about our move was how dusty my office would get because I was closest to our gravel/dirt driveway.

Around twice a year I’d “amuse” my wife and use a leaf blower to “dust” my office.

This saved me a ton of time and did a decent job with little work.

About a month ago I sold our last rental home and I had extra cash so I decided to redo our driveway with crushed asphalt.

HOLY COW !

My only regret is that I didn’t do it years ago!

Now I know just how people feel when they hire us to automate their tasks.

I can rest peacefully knowing I’ve made a sound investment and will not have to blow-out my office.

And my entire family can breathe easier❗

AutoHotkey to the Rescue

This is how I feel when I meet new clients for the first time. How about you %Name%?

AutoHotkey to the Rescue

Easily Transcribe Multiple Media Files

Our Transcribe & Summarize tool is quite amazing!  It’s got lots of “bells & whistles” however, if you only want transcripts, it was overkill.

So we created our Transcriber tool that lets you drag multiple files to it and it will transcribe them.  There is an option to create a summary, but that’s all.   Check it out in this video.

Adapting our OCR tool to do more!

Our AI OCR tool is quite amazing at performing OCR on whatever you select from your screen however I realized it is easily adjustable to do much more!  In this video I explain my ideas and show how powerful it could be.

Change your Drive Icons

During an AHK Hero call I walked people through how easy it is to give yourself a visual reminder by adding icons to your Hard drives that show up in Windows Explorer (and most tools).

I’ve been doing this for 30+ years, but sometimes it’s good to cover the basics!

If you’ve never done this check out how easy it is in this video.

Improving People’s Lives: Story #71

Our client needed a quick way to transfer a lot of info from a Word Doc to an Online Survey.

I quickly wrote a “simple” loop that would allow him to copy 5 data points.   Then it would automatically switch to the questionnaire, parse the clipboard content, and paste in the respective fields.

It probably took me about 20 minutes of work but saved him hours (because he had a crazy long survey❗)

What we utomated this week with AutoHotkey #111

This week I dove into a ton of AutoHotkey tools we’ve been building – everything from XML processing solutions for clients to launching our new ASM editor for just $4.99 (or Free if you have an All Access Pass)!

In this week’s video I walk you through about 20 different automation tools including hotkey managers, media players with extensive controls, invoice calculators with Stripe integration, and even a clever one-click incognito mode solution that AI helped me figure out.

AHK News 2025-07-31 My Painting Work Was Obvious; Now It’s Invisible The AutoHotkey Life

AutoHotkey Newsletter

Howdy %Name%,

When I was working on my Undergraduate degree in Marketing I ran my own company painting homes.

The name of my company was “Meticulous Painting” and I kept plenty busy making decent money.

One thing I really loved about the work was, after I’d finish a job, I could stand back and look at the home and clearly see and appreciate the results.

And, more importantly, the home owner could also look at the work and easily tell that I’d done a really good job.

Fast forward to when I earned my Master’s in Market Research and worked as a “Data Scientist“…before that term even existed)

One part of my job would be to meet with “C-level” executives and explain to them the Advanced statistical work I’d done and what it meant for the company.

I learned very quickly that, sadly, the vast majority of people had no clue what a “Regression Tree” was or what CHAID analysis was.

And those were the “simple” things I did❗

Nor did they understand, or appreciate, the complexities of working with multicollinearity (variables that are highly-correlated to each other).

Even worse was that even my boss had no clue what I was doing and had no realistic way to evaluate how good of a job I had done.

It reminds me of programming with AutoHotkey.

We often tackle very complicated automations and come up with very “cool” solutions.

They can see that our solutions are robust, however most our clients have to just “take it on faith” that the issue was “difficult” to solve because, anything beyond the basics looks like “Greek” to them.

To our clients that hire us to do work for them, we demonstrate how the tool works.

During our AHK Hero calls, we show Hero members the “magic behind the curtain”.

Most Exciting thing I’ve seen with AutoHotkey in Years!

Isaias was working for a client on a project and revisited working with the Windows Runtime model (WindowsRT).

In this video Isaias showed me how he was using AutoHotkey to Record audio without using other tools (Like ffmpeg or BASS.dll).   But we dive deeper into what his work implies for us using AutoHotkey.

Think of it like another “COM Object” approach for automating Windows Methods / Functionality.

This is going to be an ENORMOUS game changer!  Expect more videos & scripts to follow!

Speaking of New: This Functionality is available in AHK v2.1

Isaias wrote a cool “simple“ script for me the other day.

I went to run it and it “complained” that it required AHK v2.1.   I didn’t want to bug him so I tried just changing it to requiring v2.0+ but quickly realized that, in that “simple script” he’d leveraged something that actually did require v2.1.

So I asked him to fix it but decided to “hit record” so we could all learn.

You can check out the cool new thing available in v2.1 in this video.

Using AI to SuperCharge the AHK Newsletter

When I was working on the newsletter last week I realized AI could help me on this newsletter.  In particular, not only could it verify all the URLs (ensuring I linked to the correct topic) and that the links were valid but also checking if I should have included more links to the AutoHotkey documentation, our YouTube Videos, or our AHK scripts.

This was easier than anticipated because of our the-Automator Resource Finder has all those links!

️‍♀️Improving People’s Lives: Story #56

Years ago we had a client reach out to us to help him with his “golf game” (both literally and figuratively).

You see, he had a very advanced golf game that he used to improve his golf swing and wanted to use a remote control to “reset” the game after his swing.

We made it super-easy for him to use and it allowed him to stay focused on what mattered (perfecting his swing).

He was gushing with praise by the end of the call❗

P.S. A lot of people hear about AutoHotkey, give it a try and think it is “rubbish” because they only tried the simplest ways to automate (usually sending keystrokes & mouse clicks).

It’s a bummer because we know 20 ways to automate programs with AutoHotkey.

The vast majority of which are far more reliable than sending keystrokes / mouse clicks.

Mary Meeker, a very well-known researcher, released this mind-blowing 340 page deck on AI Trends over the weekend and it is INSANE❗

As I mentioned there are 340 slides in her deck.  I’d say 2/3rds of them are mind blowing!

Below are my super-high level takeaways:

  • Growth of user base (adaptation of AI) is unprecedented
  • Both Electrical and Cost per Token has plummeted
  • AI is the #1 priority for the world’s corporate giants
  • AGI (where AI can learn / do anything people can do) will be achieved soon❗

I used NotebookLM to create a summary podcast which is very good and you can listen to here.

I can’t emphasize enough of just how much the world is going to be changing around us in the very, very near future.

So, if you’ve been casually sitting-back on AI, I highly encourage you to look closer / embrace it.

Our world is truly about to go through a transformation like we have never seen before!

A client asked us to create a custom tool to replace his “snippet tool”.   I realized, we could directly import it into Prompt Assistant.

But then he asked a very interesting question

Can Prompt Assistant send RTF text❓

I explained our Clipster library allows for pushing HTML or Pictures which he confirmed will work for him.

P.S. AI has been the focus of many of our AHK hero calls and I anticipate it being even more so in the future.
We are trying to incorporate AI in more and more of our tools and you should be too!
