AutoHotkey News 2024-01-24

Howdy,

When I was 27 and getting my undergraduate degree on top of my courses I ran a small house painting company and was the business manager of “the Star” (the college newspaper).

At one point I was dating a woman that invited me to an interesting event; a Halloween wedding!  To make it more interesting the Charles Shultz, the inventor of the famous Peanuts/ Charlie Brown Cartoon. 😲

Anyway, she was a bridesmaid so she had to go to the rehearsal dinner and invited me along.  As you might have guessed from the beginning of this story, I was quite busy and, somehow, forgot that Charles Shultz was at all involved.

So at the rehearsal dinner I sat down between an elderly couple.  His name was “Sparky” and his wife’s was Jean.   We were making polite conversation and they asked what I did.  When I mentioned I was the business manager of the Star Sparky asked what I’d do when I got an article sent to the editor that I didn’t agree with.   I informed him that was the “Editor in Chief’s” decision but personally I’d publish it and write my best counter-argument to it.

Sparky disagreed with me and told me he’d “tear it up and burn it” never letting it see the light of day.   Sparky and I kept discussing this when Jean mentioned “Oh, the Star, yeah, the contacted me a couple of weeks back”.    I literally said “why would our college newspaper contact you?” and she replied “It was for the donation we made…”

Oh, that would be the 5-million dollar donation!

Suddenly it all came back to me that “Sparky” was Charles Shultz and that I’d been arguing with one of the best known comics on the planet!

Had I remembered who he was before we began our debate I’m pretty sure I would have been a bit more timid.  But, since I’d already made my position clear, I decided to stick with it and keep up the debate.

The main point of this is Context matters: When a noob suggests something I take it with a grain of salt.  When Isaias, our main instructor of our AutoHotkey courses, I’m much more careful to listen to his advice.  Isaias is so good we offer a 200% money back guarantee on all our courses!

So remember, you should weight the input differently depending on the source!

AutoHotkey NewsLetter January 18th, 2024

Howdy,

I’m a pretty big fan of Tom Cruise and was looking forward to the new Mission Impossible movie.

If you haven’t seen it yet, and don’t want any spoilers, skip to the next section of the newsletter…

Okay, so my wife (Cathy) and I finally found a time where we were both available to sit down with a bag of popcorn and check out the flick.

The 7th Mission Impossible movie, Dead Reckoning, was begun in February 2020.  While I don’t think they could have timed it better (given Chat GPT and the AI boom) I was incredibly disappointed with the movie.  It’s as if the they didn’t bother to consult with any actual Data Scientists about what the capabilities would be.  Having been a data scientist for nearly 20 years I always find Hollywood’s interpretation of AI cringe-worthy.

What was really surprising was the lack of effort that was put into making the AI a “real” bad guy.  Since the AI was pitched as the main antagonist I expected them to flesh-out the character (as it truly could have been done well) but, sadly, they left it feeling unreal.

Because of my background in Data Science I’ve been keeping up with a lot of the advancements in AI.   Recently I was blown away when I saw a video on the “Self Operating Computer”.  Even though I’d predicted this a few months ago, I was surprised how fast it came to be!

What really surprised me was the amount of interest in the Self Operating Computer Git RepositoryThe AI community is showing enormous interest in it (yet those very same people overlook AutoHotkey).  I know you have to apply a bit of elbow-grease to use AutoHotkey but it is, by far, the easiest language to pick up and, by far, the best at automating your PC.  It’s a shame the author of the library didn’t write it in AHK instead of Python…

If you’re wanting to automate your PC, you can start learning AutoHotkey by checking out our Intro to AHK course.  Over 4 hours of content created for the average computer user (not a programmer).  Don’t forget, all of our courses come with a mind-blowing 200% money-back guarantee!

📢New Course:  How to use your PC more than a Word Processor

We just finished our course teaching PC basics!  This has been something I’ve wanted to do for more than 20 years!   Back in 1998, when attending my undergraduate college, I had to take an “intro to PC” course as part of my requirement to graduate.  It was a painfully boring class for me as I was very tech savvy back then.  What shocked me was watching my classmates try and do basic things.

It was a good learning experience for me (not because I learned a lot about using a PC) but I learned that not everyone was a “geek”.  What was also really fascinating is how the above course didn’t teach you how to be efficient.  It taught concepts, not “how to” actually use a PC.

While most of what we teach here at the-Automator is simple enough for anyone to do it, there are lots of simpler things people can learn to be more efficient!  In our new course we help you discover how to use a PC more efficiently.

Remember all of our courses come with a 200% money-back guarantee!

Avoid this annoying MS Office issue

In corporate America I used to get Word, Excel, PowerPoint files from the Internet every day!  When those files are downloaded from the internet a “security flag” is created which always asks you if you are sure you want to open it (and the warning isn’t very big so you waste time trying to click).

In this video Isaias shows us how we can set “safe folders” on your PC to avoid this issue.

I wish I’d known this then!   But I still love doing it now as I really hate Microsoft trying to treat me like a moron!

AutoHotkey News Jan 11th, 2024

Howdy %Name%,

Back in 2002 I was in Grad school and received the following email from my Dad:

Hi Joe;  Today I went to see Black Hawk Down, only when I went in to sit after all the pre movie stuff, Jimmy Neutron came on, so I left that one and went in the one next door to it,

Clitoral Damage, another Action movie.

Well it was good too.  Just keeping in touch with you.   that will be all for now  Love  Dad

I did confirm my dad didn’t visit an adult theater and that it was “Collateral Damage”, with Arnold Schwarzenegger, that he saw.  One hilarious typo which caused me to Coca-Cola to flow through my nose but it does happen more often than we realize.

It’s a perfect example of how humans can introduce almost un-detectable problems because it’s virtually impossible to proof-read our own work (because we see what we want to see).

It’s one of the best reasons people purchase
Prompt Assistant.  Things which are typed regularly can be easily accessed and pasted without concern of creating a faux pas.
We’ve recently added some amazing functionality to it and have some even bigger plans in the immediate future.

AutoHotkey Newsletter Jan 4th 2024 – Happy New Year🥳

Howdy ,

Happy New year!

I’m reading a great book entitled “Success Is an Inside Job: The Secrets to Getting Anything You Want” by Lee Milteer.  It reminded me of the great quote by Henry Ford

Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t; you’re usually right Henry Ford

This also reminds me of one of my favorite books The Magic Power of Self-Image Psychology: Psycho-Cybernetics.  Dr. Maltz brilliantly explains how your self image will determine your potential.  Until you see yourself as someone that can succeed, you won’t!

I realized its something we need to address for both our AHK hero group and selling our AHK courses.   Many people don’t join/purchase a course because they feel they just can’t learn how to code.  And, as long as they keep that attitude, they are, probably, right!

Even though our courses are purposely designed for people with Zero background in programming, a lot of people have an inner-belief that they are not able to learn how to program and thus don’t!

The good news is we offer 200% money back guarantee on our courses!  So you literally have nothing to lose!  If, in the first 30 days, you’re not completely satisfied, ask for a refund and we will DOUBLE what you paid❗
