Around 20 years ago I was a “Data Scientist” using SPSS to perform various advanced Statistical tasks.  

I got deep into “macros” and kept bugging my SPSS coding buddy that he needed to create a macro because it would save him so much time. 

He thanked me but he informed me:

he doesn’t do the “same thing” every time

The thing is I knew he really did (as I’d seen his code for years).

I kept bugging him for a few months but he always insisted that they wouldn’t help him.

So I got sneaky…

I invited him over for dinner.  When he got there, I told him it would be ready in an hour but meanwhile I’d like to show him something.

We made our way to the computer where I proceeded to “macrotize” one of his programs.

Once he saw it in-person, adapted to his need, he finally understood how, much of what he did, would benefit from creating /using macros.

Its one of the main reasons, when I introduce people to AutoHotkey, I try and customize things to their needs!  

When you give them real-world examples of how AutoHotkey can save them time, they are much more likely to see the value.  

So, if you’re trying to “spread the AutoHotkey love”, remember that, the closer your examples are to what the prospect needs, the more likely

A client’s computer was very slow so we ran AutoRuns and made a few tweaks to the programs/services that were set to launch at startup.   (We’re going to cover this in this week’s AHK Hero call)

Now her computer is noticeably faster (which helps us because we’re developing on it for her)
