🅰️HK Lesson #7: How to run scripts automatically on windows start.

Hello,

Do you ever wish for the days when it was easy to add items to your startup process? That’s what thisemail is all about! Windows XP and 7 made it really easy to add an item to your startup folder however, in Windows 8, the “big brains” at Microsoft decided to do-away with the Start menu and that just through a huge monkey wrench into the process.

Adding scripts to the startup is one of the common questions we help with during our AHK Hero calls. We even made a simple tool named AddtoStartup which can help you easily add scripts & programs to your Startup process.

Add to startup: Easily add / remove programs from Windows Startup

If you’re a little technical you can hit the Windows key and R (to bring up the “Run” window, then type the following to open an explorer window on your startup folder

shell:Startup

If you want to navigate to the startup folder that is shared across all users you would type:

shell:Common startup

Regardless of which one you use, after you have one open, just drag a shortcut to your script (or a program) to those folders and it will then be run every time you boot up Windows.
