AutoHotkey News April 4th, 2024- We are the they

Howdy %Name%,

I was reading a marketing book and it kept mentioning “They say…”.  For instance “They say subject lines should be under 48 characters”.  “They say you need to focus on customer’s wants, not product attributes” etc.

In the above cases “they” are referring to industry experts.

That’s when I realized

we (the-🅰utomator) are the “they” for 🅰utoHotkey❗

We’ve lead over 60 AHK Webinars, 100+ AHK podcasts and have the largest (both in # of videos and subscribers) YouTube channel on the planet!   When it comes to AutoHotkey we are the experts!

That’s one of the reasons our AHK hero members LOVE the club!   They get 3 hours a week where they can ask questions, get tutorials, and get ideas from others.

Now on with the show…

Need Another Modifier Key❓

Danny, one of our Radiologist clients, really liked the idea I showed in this video where I used a foot-pedal as a way to add a modifier key.  In fact, he liked it so much, he upgraded his to this Elgato Stream deck which has 3 pedals.  Using a foot pedal to modify the keyboard is a really cool hack that you should try!

Using UIA to connect to Programs

We had a teem meeting a few weeks back and Isaias gave us some great tips on using UIA.  UIA is amazing because it is built-in to most Windows programs.  It is fairly advanced approach and you need to be very familiar with Objects.  Our Intro to Function, Objects and Classes course is definitely something that will help you get comfortable working with objects / classes.

Finding and Listing Files in an AHK GUI

Every week I use Prompt Assistant to kick off this tool which looks for recently modified AutoHotkey files and then displays them in a ListView.   It’s a great example how easy working with AHK GUIs can be.  You can learn more about our GUIs are Easier in v2 course here.

Another super busy week of Client work.  Having said that, we still had 64 files that we’d updated over the past week which I discuss in this video.

I joined the AHK-Heroes club to support Joe and Isaias in the valuable work they do for the AutoHotKey community.

The Friday calls have been fun from the start and I’m actually looking forward to them each week.

It’s always interesting to see the different approaches others take when solving problems. The people are great and the relaxed atmosphere helps a lot in staying motivated.

Highly recommended! – Thomas K.

P.S. Earlier this week I sent out a “sales email” discussing how April is Stress awareness month and offered HALF off discounts to our amazing AHK courses.  I didn’t mention that the coupon code works in conjunction with our built-in discounts over thresholds.

If you’re spending over 100 you get 10% off.

If you spend over 200 you get an additional 20% off.

And, you guessed it, if you spend over 300 you get 30% off.

That’s in addition to the 50% off!

Don’t miss this sale!

Double P.S. I saw an order come thorugh yesterday where the client saved 80% on their purchase.  You can see a screen shot of the transaction here. I created the below graph to summarize his savings!
