AutoHotkey Newsletter: 2024-04-25 Avoiding Negative People

Howdy ,

I was listening to an amazing interview where Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazer were interviewing Robert Ringer (author of the fascinating book: Winning through Intimidation: how to be victor, not the victim, in business and in life).

In the interview I really enjoyed this part where he discusses dealing with incompetent, stupid and negative people.  Rude, Nasty and Negative people will drain you!

The other great lesson in that clip is about only working with people that want to work with you.  That was one of the reasons of last week’s newsletter regarding my beliefs.  BTW I view last week’s newsletter as a complete success!  I got a lot of great responses from like minded people.  Some people wrote back and said they disagreed with my beliefs but they respected that I stated them openly and, two people, said I was evil and the cause of all the problems in our society today.

Thankfully, as I mentioned last week, I don’t care much what people think of me.

However, if you are like me and believe

time is the most valuable thing a man can spend

then reply to this email and let me know how we can help you save time.

Learning VS Code

Last week we launched our Intro to VS Code course.  VS code is a crazy-powerful IDE tool that is crazy powerful.  We do have several videos discussing configuring VS code however our course goes deep into using an IDE and helps level you up.  To help give you an idea as to what is in the course I’ve extracted a couple of videos.   In this video is Isaias and I discuss the many benefits of using an IDE over an Editor.

How to Easily Create Resizable GUIs

Often we have the need to display text of varying size.   We borrowed on the concept of Resizable GUI from years ago and added many new, cool, parameters that make it even more flexible yet it is super-easy to use.   In this video we discuss the various parameters and how to use them.  If you’d like to learn more about GUIs our GUIs are Easier course is a great place to start!

Improving People’s Lives: Story #1

I realized for the past ~15 years I’ve been automating things that have changed lives myself and others (it’s one reason I have 31,746 AutoHotkey files on my computer).

While I can’t necessarily share videos on them (both because I no longer have access to the programs I automated and because of confidentiality), I can explain the concepts of what was done.  This will help you get ideas of what you can do with AutoHotkey.

So, to kick this off, I’m going to talk about the first GUI script I wrote for a colleague at Texas Instruments.  Shane worked in Logistics and constantly had to quickly know the date out in the future (sometimes 2 weeks, sometimes 1 month, and sometimes  “x” days out.

This was something amazingly easy to achieve with some simple logic in AutoHotkey and taking advantage of the built-in time functionality.  I demonstrated the script in this video.

While it only took a few minutes to create the script Shane was “blown away” at how easy it was to use and how much time it saved him!

What we utomated this week with AutoHotkey #42

This week Irfan and Rizwan were back and we worked on 46 AutoHotkey files.  I review what we worked on last week in this video.   In the coming weeks we’ll have some pretty cool tools coming out that are leveraging ffmpeg.  Our tools make doing basic things with video & audio files super easy!
