AHK News 2025-05-15 Master Your Mind: What Your Conscious & Subconscious Excels At❗

AutoHotkey Newsletter Howdy,

The following quote is a favorite of mine and is attributed to Henry Ford

Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t; you’re usually right

It came to my mind when I was listening one of my favorite books The New Psycho Cybernetics.

The book was discussing how important it is to realize that your conscious mind is great for actually doing things but your subsconscious (which you can’t directly focus) is what solves problems, is creative, etc.

It’s why we often solve problems when we’re not thinking about them.

And why “writer’s block” can be a real thing because you’re “trying to be creative”.

I extracted this fascinating clip

Improving People’s Lives: Story #49

One client we’re doing a lot of work on their computers.  They have a total of 12 computers and we decided it would help if we created a “fake drive” so all of the paths would be the same (for them as well as for us.)

Now all the paths are the same regardless what computer we’re on (and all of this under DropBox so we no-longer need to sync files either)

What we utomated this week with AutoHotkey #86

In this week’s episode, I walk through some of my recovery process after losing my Windows install and having to “start from scratch”.

Thankfully much of my files were backed up but there were lots of little things that I work on that I lost (but I’m making a list)

AutoHotkey News 2025-05-08 I finally found someone smarter than Isaias

Howdy %First_Name%,

AutoHotkey Newsletter

Anyone that has watched one of our YouTube videos, or taken one of our courses, can tell that Isaias, our lead developer & trainer, is very smart.

But I found someone smarter!

Not only smarter but he’s a better coder too!

Who is it you ask?

It’s Isaias and I (working together)

To be fair, it could also have been Isaias and anyone else on our team.

Or even Isaias and anyone from the AHK hero group.

What we’ve realized is the interaction between people (and sometimes with AI) is always better than anyone on their own.

We just “think differently” when talking to others.

It’s one of the fundamental reasons we created the AHK Hero group.

Working through problems with other people always leads to more options / answers.

Our Hero program is perfect for it but, if that’s not your thing, be sure you find someone to bounce ideas off of.

Trust me, it will help you more than you realize!

Improving People’s Lives: Story #47

One of our clients has a very-complicated licensing model.   Their software has over twenty “automations”, each one representing a separate automation that they sell for thousands of dollars.

They sell “combinations of automations” at different prices (for instance buy any 5 automation for $1,200 per automation, buy any 10 automations for $1,000 each or buy all 22 for $700 each.

And, for each sale, we need to keep track of which automations they purchased.

Thankfully, our new hire Denilson, has PHP experience so we created our own API Endpoint so our scripts can easily check / validate licensing.

Now we’ll be able to let the customers provide their email address and order number and check what licenses they have paid for!

P.S. The intro to this newsletter very well may be self-serving however it is also 100% the truth!  Most weeks Isaias will get stuck on something and ask for my “help”.  Even though he’s Far more advanced than I am, when he explains the problem to me we always find a solution.

I’d say 70% of the time he solves it himself while explaining it to me but, had he not been talking to me, he would not have gotten to the solution on his own.

The “Rubber Duck” method can help, but interacting with another person is best!

AHK News 2025-05-01 The Harsh Truth: Most of What You Create Isn’t Unique

AutoHotkey Newsletter

Howdy,

I was chatting with my good friend Ryan Wells about how people have difficulty seeing the repetitiveness in what they do as mentioned in last week’s newsletter intro.  He proposed the idea of how a custom baker makes personalized cakes.

Because the baker has his client in mind, and is changing the frosting and design on top, they view every cake as “% unique”.

Yet 99% of the ingredients and work that goes into the cake are IDENTICAL to the last one they made!

They also use the same oven, cook it for nearly the same amount of time, and use the same pans, hot-pads, delivery boxes etc.

So probably over 99% of the effort that goes into making the cake is identical to other cakes.

The differences, while they seem large to the human eye, are very small from the perspective of a task and training someone (or something) to re-create it.

My question to you is:

What are your “custom cakes“❓

What work do you do repeatedly that you think is vastly different however, in reality, is 99% the same.

What “looks different” but, in reality, is the same thing with a different colored frosting?

Whatever that thing is: you should be able to automate a lot of it!

If you’d like some help identifying the repeatable things, look at my calendar and pick a time to review❗

Unfortunately, because it is so powerful, it is tough to learn.

P.S. It’s super-easy to not realize much of what we do is repetitive.   I think humans are hard-wired to think that what we do is “unique” (which helps our self-esteem) however the vast majority of what we do is repeatable (or everything would cost a zillion dollars).

The sooner you can realize that, the sooner you’ll be spotting what you can, and should, automate!
