Howdy %Name%,

I’m not the most innovative person but I’m very good.  Probably better than 97% of most people.

I’m not the best AutoHotkey programmer , but I decent.  I’m probably better than 95% of people.

I’m not the best Data Analyst but I am much better than most (probably better than 95%.)

When you meet 100 people it won’t be hard to find some people better than me at any one of the above.  What will be hard to find is an innovative individual that is amazing at programming in AutoHotkey and can analyze data and explain it in laymen’s terms!

It’s usually not your strengths alone that makes you stand out. It’s the combination of your strengths that sets you apart.  When you’re deciding what really sets you apart, think more about several of your key-strengths and how they will set you apart from others.

Talk to your Computer

While Windows has a built-in approach for performing Voice to Text, it isn’t the best in the world.  When we were updating our Chat GPT API library I happened to noticed that their Whisper model (which is the best in the world that I know of) was now accessible through their API.   So, with a little bit of work, we created this tool which allows you to easily, and accurately, transcribe your voice to text.  You can get the tool here or just check out how it works in this video.

Working with APIs

If you’re new to working with APIs you might check out this tutorial we did on how to use Fiddler to monitor your network traffic.   While you can go to the Developer view in a browser however
Fiddler allows you to also see your API calls from AutoHotkey!

Simplify you Life Using VSCode & this trick

We were on a team call and Isaias wanted to show Irfan a little trick how to better define his AutoHotkey functions in VS code.  Thankfully I recorded the call because the tip was a GAME CHANGER!

Taking this approach makes using functions far easier because the possible parameters are auto assisted when you type. Check it out in this video.

I liked it so much we’re having Rizwan go back and update our other libraries so anyone getting our scripts, and using thqby’s amazing AutoHotkey V2 VS code extension, will be able to take advantage of them as well.

If you’re using thqby’s extension, please consider donating to thqby. He spends a ton of time and deserves your help!

Don’t forget we have an amazing Intro to VS code course which comes with a double-your-money back guarantee. If you’re not 100% satisfied within the first 30 days, ask for a refund and we’ll DOUBLE what you paid for it!

Improving People’s Lives: Story #9

Back in 2016 a good friend of mine, that worked in sales, was let-go and was very concerned because she hadn’t been keeping an up-to-date client list.  She was using Outlook and, because she was remote, still had access to her emails.

So Maestrith and I got to work using the Outlook COM object and create a cool little tool to loop over all of her emails, count how many were from each email address and note the last time she’d corresponded with them.   This gave her a “real world” address book that should could easily export!   You can check out the tool in this video.

⚡️Productivity tips: Goldilocks monitors

Over the years I’ve worked with as many as 6 monitors and realized the “ideal” number of monitors is not easily determined.  You should think of it as a “Goldilocks” approach.  Two many is nearly as bad as too few.   And, if you’re doing a lot of writing/programming, consider setting up one of your monitors Portrait.  You’ll be able to see a LOT more of your work at one time!

P.S. As I mention in the intro of this newsletter, we’re most productive focusing on what we’re best at.  If you’re wanting to have amazingly robust scripts, you really might want to let us help you create them so you can get back to focusing on what you’re best at!  If you’d like to discuss us helping you simply reply to this email and give me an idea what it is you’re working on.

AutoHotkey Newsletter: 2024-04-25 Avoiding Negative People

Howdy ,

I was listening to an amazing interview where Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazer were interviewing Robert Ringer (author of the fascinating book: Winning through Intimidation: how to be victor, not the victim, in business and in life).

In the interview I really enjoyed this part where he discusses dealing with incompetent, stupid and negative people.  Rude, Nasty and Negative people will drain you!

The other great lesson in that clip is about only working with people that want to work with you.  That was one of the reasons of last week’s newsletter regarding my beliefs.  BTW I view last week’s newsletter as a complete success!  I got a lot of great responses from like minded people.  Some people wrote back and said they disagreed with my beliefs but they respected that I stated them openly and, two people, said I was evil and the cause of all the problems in our society today.

Thankfully, as I mentioned last week, I don’t care much what people think of me.

However, if you are like me and believe

“time is the most valuable thing a man can spend”

then reply to this email and let me know how we can help you save time.

Learning VS Code

Last week we launched our Intro to VS Code course.  VS code is a crazy-powerful IDE tool that is crazy powerful.  We do have several videos discussing configuring VS code however our course goes deep into using an IDE and helps level you up.  To help give you an idea as to what is in the course I’ve extracted a couple of videos.   In this video is Isaias and I discuss the many benefits of using an IDE over an Editor.

How to Easily Create Resizable GUIs

Often we have the need to display text of varying size.   We borrowed on the concept of Resizable GUI from years ago and added many new, cool, parameters that make it even more flexible yet it is super-easy to use.   In this video we discuss the various parameters and how to use them.  If you’d like to learn more about GUIs our GUIs are Easier course is a great place to start!

Improving People’s Lives: Story #1

I realized for the past ~15 years I’ve been automating things that have changed lives myself and others (it’s one reason I have 31,746 AutoHotkey files on my computer).

While I can’t necessarily share videos on them (both because I no longer have access to the programs I automated and because of confidentiality), I can explain the concepts of what was done.  This will help you get ideas of what you can do with AutoHotkey.

So, to kick this off, I’m going to talk about the first GUI script I wrote for a colleague at Texas Instruments.  Shane worked in Logistics and constantly had to quickly know the date out in the future (sometimes 2 weeks, sometimes 1 month, and sometimes  “x” days out.

This was something amazingly easy to achieve with some simple logic in AutoHotkey and taking advantage of the built-in time functionality.  I demonstrated the script in this video.

While it only took a few minutes to create the script Shane was “blown away” at how easy it was to use and how much time it saved him!

What we utomated this week with AutoHotkey #42

This week Irfan and Rizwan were back and we worked on 46 AutoHotkey files.  I review what we worked on last week in this video.   In the coming weeks we’ll have some pretty cool tools coming out that are leveraging ffmpeg.  Our tools make doing basic things with video & audio files super easy!

Testimonial

Having discovered Joe Glines on the Internet was the best thing in addition to discovering AutoHotkey. Joe not only shares his knowledge of Automation with this wonderful language but interacts with users via Email and other as well. He shares his opinions and experience with all and always has his newsletter full of knowledge, topics, videos and other things to do. Having a resource like Joe is priceless. To all programmers out there, stop wasting time with useless programming languages and useless YouTube videos that just simply waste your time and get into AutoHotkey with Joe Glines! I guarantee you will not be disappointed. – Dwight A.
