Signposts: Your Favorite Folders, One Click Away Under This PC

You open the same folders every day: a client folder five levels deep, a project on another drive, the place your downloads really go. Every time, it is the same trail of clicks through File Explorer. Signposts ends that. Open your most-used folders in one click, right under This PC beside your drives.

One click, every day: Open your most-used folders in one click, right under This PC beside your drives.

Safe by Design

Removing a signpost never deletes your folder or a single file inside it. A signpost is only a clearly named door to a folder you pick. It is not a drive: no drive letter, no free-space bar, and nothing moves on your disk.

What It Does

Folders Right Beside Your Drives

Click New, type a name, pick the folder, and click Save. Explorer updates right away: your signpost sits under This PC next to C: and D:, and one click opens the folder.

Your Own Names and Icons

Call it “Client Work” or “Invoices 2026”. Names can be up to 100 characters, and emoji work too. Pick any icon from an .ico, .exe or .dll file, or click Create icon… to design one from letters, emoji and colors with the included IconMaker.

Right-Click Any Folder: Create Signpost

Turn on the Explorer menu entry in Preferences, then right-click any folder or drive and choose Create Signpost. The New signpost window opens already filled in. If that folder already has a signpost, Signposts selects it instead of making a duplicate.

It Suggests Folders for You

Not sure where to start? Click Suggest…. Signposts reads the history Windows already keeps (Explorer and app jump lists, Recent Items, Quick Access) and lists the folders you open most, with counts and dates. Tick the ones you want and add them in one go.

Quick Access, the Left Pane and Real Paths

  • Pin to Quick Access, showing your signpost’s name.
  • Pin to the top of Explorer’s left pane, not just under This PC.
  • Optional junction: a real folder path for programs that cannot see This PC entries.
  • Folder icon: put the signpost’s icon on the real folder too (folders with their own icon are left alone).

Tidy Up Windows’ Own Explorer Items

Show or hide Windows’ built-in entries such as Home, Gallery, OneDrive, Network and the Quick Access pins for Desktop, Downloads and Documents. Tick what you want to see and click Save.

Backup, Move to a New PC, Repair

Export your signposts to a small file, Import them on another PC (existing ones are never overwritten), and click Repair all if one ever goes missing from This PC.

Easy on the Eyes

Dark or light theme, font sizes from 8 to 14, and a hover tip on every button and box so you never have to guess. A full user guide (HTML and PDF) is included.
